Hi all

Hopefully going to be getting a Chimaera within the month, and I'll be doing some work on it over the summer, aiming to have it road ready in time for the rain...

What insurance do you guys go for? For me it'd be a second car with limited milage but naturally quotes are stupid from the usual people, as I'm 18.

Cheers
James

Sounds reasonable, think I've heard of them from others.

I had challenges getting classic car insurance until I was 25 (normal policy).

Between 18 and 25 I used Adrian flux and believe it or not the NFU.

I knew it would be a challenge... But would be well worth it in the end.

I'll try and get a few quotes then, wanted one for too long really!

There's a member on here who must have recently gone through this issue, had it about 6 months I think.
"Canoesniffer" is his ID and he says he's 20

If he doesn't see the thread you could try a private message.

Or post on his thread: Great read it is if you've not seen it.

I've read that thread a good few times. Lovely looking beast on carbs! (Not sure what I think of them, set up a few Webers and SUs but that's about it)

I'll send him a PM, 18=20 right?

Well I guess if anyone is a reckless showoff at 18 then things probably haven't changed by the time their 20biggrin

I'm hoping and presuming you're a sensible person who will love and cherish and have pride in your car, rather than an eighteen year old showing his mates their skills of donuts laugh

But insurance companies unfortunately won't have any idea how mature you are and you'll be just a number in their computer system. It all sadly goes very wrong for a lot of young drivers, only read today that three teens died in Norfolk in a ford KA. One of the photo's didn't look good as a can of "pistonheads" with the skull on was left at scene with flowersfrown

One thing that really helped my insurance was doing the IAM advanced drivers course. There are other courses out there and it's best to talk to the insurance companies about which course will give you the biggest discount.

I'm a classic car restorer most evenings! MX5, Fiat X1/9 (Current car actually) Both took two years each. Also done a 1955 Jag Xk140 last year so I like to think I'm not the usual 18 year old showoff that I know...

But yeah, proving that is a problem...

To give you an idea I got my 4.0 chim at the age of 23, I'm now 26. Originally the only people who would insure me sensibly was my old car insurance, elephant for about £800, 200 more than my old astra estate, so went with that. Now with footman james with the club discount and paying around 300 with all the added perks and 5k miles. It's my primary car and had a claim against me at age of 19. Best of luck and look after it!

Okay, I'll try them too.

I'll put up some pics when I finally have one. Looking to sort it over the summer so may take the body off etc. I've heard good things about the Bible? But where do you get hold of one?

I got lucky by constantly checking Amazon, managed to pick up a second edition for around £25. I had been looking on there pretty much every day for a few months by that point though!

Also as Jason rightly says, Canoesniffer on here is 20 so hopefully he'll spot this thread and be able to offer you some advice.

Pretty shocking read that, I'll avoid them. Reviews speak for themselves but makes you wonder how they carry on being the same

Those ones have been on there since the dawn of time! Keep checking on Amazon though- they do appear for sensible money now and again but they don't hang around when they do.

I seem to recall you also used to be able to purchase them through the TVRCC or am I imagining that?

I had a look but I couldn't find them? Not a member yet though so could just be for members?
