How to refit Dizzy & Thermostat gaskets
Discussion
Inlet manifold is out, tap removed, new stud tapped and metal epoxyed into place, so just need to rebuild it today for this weekend's outing:
I've ordered a complete top end set of gaskets and thermostat gaskets but seem to have a couple of extra items:

The original thermostat had only the black rubber gasket and no fibre washer: Are these for the other engine sizes?
Also, I've had to take the dizzy out. I've taken a picture with it in place, but how do I know I've aligned it correctly?
Cheers, and if lucky, see everyone on Sunday!

The engine will start
Is the engine exactly as was when you pulled it out or has it been turned? I've found it pretty difficult getting it back in without turning the engine a bit to help align the oil pump drive which has to engage in the distributor shaft.
Presume you took your pictures with cap off?
If it matches photo perfectly it should be right............... at least near enough to start, a few degrees out may be hard to compare with a photo?
When I've had mine out I put a pencil, or scratch mark on the rotor arm and dizzy baseplate to help with alignment.

Because the rotor arm is in the same orientation as before you removed it (and the engine has not moved while the dizzy was out), and the alignment mark you put on the dizzy body before you removed it lines up precisely with the corresponding mark you put on the engine.ETA: And the engine will start.
