Queens New Front Man

I hear that after a 20 year break Queen are to tour again with Paul Rodgers as Front Man.

Not sure how I feel about this one as I have always thought that Freddy was irreplaceable, but then again they wrote such good music it's a shame not to see it performed live.

Who is Paul Rodgers? I was an avid Queen fan and I can't imagine anyone replacing Freddie. Imitate maybe, but not replace.

front man of Free apparently. They've done some stuff together in the past and people said he murdered a Freddie song IIRC.

Saw them on telly at xmas. He has a physically horrible voice, ie it actually makes you reach for pins to attack your eardrums with, to relieve the pain. Or the tv remote.

He was brill in Bad Company...but alas, I have to agree that Queen = Freddie.

He sang at the Channel 4 Hall Of Fame show and did 3 songs two of which could be sung by no one else but Freddy.

Putting a new front man on Queen is the musical equivalent of diet coke.

Didn't go to the Brixton Academy last night but it strikes me as a little odd choosing Paul as a front man. His voice is better suited to blues and rock in fact saw him live a few years ago and was a good performance. However with Freddie's operatic bent(no pun) I doubt that Paul could replicate what Freddie did.
Of course it coulkd be that Queen have decided that Freddie is irreplaceable and have gone for a different interpretation of their old toons.

He used to present "321" on TV back in the early 1980's.




You may or may not recall that The Doors were recently exhumed, with predictably miserable results.

Similar efforts to breathe life back into INXS were soon snuffed out.

Even those New Romantic darlings Duran Duran now look like the living dead as they dance round their colostomy bags.

Some things are better viewed through Rose Tinted Spectacles and should be left to rest in peace.

This can only be a bad idea. Never in a million years can he do it justice.

Just look at Bucks Fizz without the original line up....I rest my case

Tell you what....George Micheal....few years back did a couple of covers with the original members (that'll be BAND members...stop sniggering) sounded pretty good. So if you are going to replace Sir Fred, who better than a queen to head up queen...(sorry)

Agree with you Minnsy, I think George Michael is really the only person that could replace Freddy.

Paul Rodgers guested with Brian May at a Blues Fest that Brian organised in Seville, Spain some years ago. There were a great many notables there, I've got the Rock night on video.

Unfortunately, the ONLY let-down was Paul Rodgers, who seems to think that being a youthful blues/soul singer in the 70's confirms him as an all-time great. Sorry, pal, but you need to try harder.

And I am a big Free and Bad Co. fan.

Objectivity comes with age, you know.

Still love Seven Angels, mind.

I'll reserve judgement until I seem them perform in July, but they've said from the beginning that there is no way they could replace Freddie - getting Paul involved means no-one can accuse them of trying to.

If they really wanted to perform as the original group, they'd get that bloke of Stars in their eyes to front them. This would be worse in my opinion.

I think it is about time that Brian May laid Queen to rest. If he has the talent, he should move on to something new, if not, he should retire to count the £'s. MInd you, we saw the Brian May Band at the Albert Hall a few years back and he was dire!

I remember George Michael playing a few tracks and it was good IMO
