Battery Charging Question

Quick question on battery conditioner connection

I have a battery Conditioner with two crocodile clips - the usual RED (+) and BLACK (-) wires

I also have a cigarette lighter plug from my old mobile phone

I want to charge the battery through the cigarette lighter

Am I correct that the RED(+) should be the central part of the lighter plug and the BLACK (-) is the outer part ??

Not sure of the configuration, but I would add,

Watch your charging rate through the ciggy lighter IIRC it's not designed to take large amperage just a trickle charge.

I'd buy a cig lighter socket from maplins (they do them, I have one), connect it to the battery with suitable cable, and tuck it behind the carpet ready for use.

It will only cost you a few quid, and yes, +ve is the centre connector.

Err why not just use the one in the car like most people do..? It has a permanent live feed and will take a trickle charge absolutely fine. Plus a voltmeter will very quickly establish which bit of it is + and - too if there is any doubt.

I will use the cigarette lighter on the TVR but take the maplin option on the Bubblecar....its so light I usually bump start it if the battery is down !!
