Carbon Cable Stops
Discussion
Afternoon All,
This is a bit of a punt, but anyone know where I can get a carbon cable stop for a chain-stay.
I bought a very cheap end of line carbon frame, and the cable stop is missing. Am three quarters of the way through building the bike, when i noticed it was not there!!
The frame is new, and has a hole waiting for a pop-rivet to attach a cable stop, but finding one is a royal pail - I have asked the supplier but I am not holding out much hope.
Cheers in advance!

In general, pop rivets in carbon are bad news. The way they work pulls up the rivet from the reverse side and compresses the carbon in a pretty messy manner. Much better would be to sand up the area of the bike where you are looking to put this component, rough up the back face of the stop and then stick it on using a blend of resin and some sort of fillers. (glass bubbles, filleting blend, colloidal silica) You can then neatly sand this back to a nice smooth finish afterwards.
Either that, or if you wanted to do it really strongly, you could 'tie' it on using some strands of UD carbon and resin, and then fair it off afterwards using the things described above.
(The pop rivet will probably be fine... but it's not a very nice way of doing things although it is by far and away the easiest option. I'm saying this from a marine background having built composite spars and attached plenty of fittings to them)
