It being the time of the month where the wise man treads rather carefully I unwisely enjoyed the red wine I had left over after awaking from a days sleep, nightshift completed.
My vastly better half disagreed with this decision as we had been supposed to meet some friends, in my defence she had neglected to inform me of this.
A furious row, totally OTT ensued which ended with me going to the supermarket on the, reasonable, supposition that such a tirade was easier to bear with another bottle of red.
Returning to the homestead I found a note informing me that she had gone to meet our friends and my prescence was certainly not required.
So peace descended on me and my new, if rather fickle, friend and I settled on the new 5 piece patio set with a cigarette and a glass.
Disturbing the peace was a plaintive mewing, looking up I realised one of my kittens was unaccountably atop my roof, now having been, please note the tense, a competent climber in my youth the obvious course of action, suggested by my most fickle friend, was to scale the porch via the wheelybin and rescue the errant moggie.
Genius idea.
When I awoke I discovered I was now the proud owner of only a 4 piece patio set, an astonishing bruise across my back and an empty bottle on its side.
WTF happened to that wisdom I was supposed to acquire in my forties?
Oh and she aint best chuffed about the chair.

What happened to the Moggie during this daring if futile rescue attempt?

Proof, if proof were required, that age and wisdom are not entirely linked in the male of the species.

I was woken up by the little fker, having descended safely, licking my face and yowling for food.

Why would getting round the outside of a bottle of red preclude you from going to meet said friends anyway? Are they on the local ISIS sub-committee or summat?

Fair point.

My wife could take me nowhere, were the barrier to doing so sobriety on arrival.

It is not the red she objects to, it is the combination of alcohol and coming off a night shift which makes me unpredictable.

It's not just me that gets this then. Wife - xyz is coming over for dinner later, Me - oh are they, when did you arrange that?, Wife - I told you last week (she didn't), don't you remember. No further point in arguing. mad

I admire your confidence in these matters. When I hear "I told you last week" I just assume she did but I wasn't really listening. Then I nod and pretend to remember as the alternative is less beneficial to my general status in the household...

I think sometimes they genuinely tell you and other times they have the conversation in their head and then think they told you. We also have the problem of them trying to tell you these little details, right when you are in the middle of doing something else or are generally distracted.

So between their imaginary conversations and our general lack of attention when they start talking about stuff that's just not that interesting, it's a wonder their is any communication at all. biggrin
