Quick question for the track enthusiasts/club racers. The surface of my RS29 front pads are glazed and cracked but are only 2-3 hours old (track time). I'm having the brake ducts replaced which should improve the cooling.

I am also replacing the front Alcons. Ordinarily when my front pads have plenty of wear remaining, I leave them on when the disks are changed and rebed them to ensure an even mating between the two surfaces - never had any issues with this method in the past.

On this occasion the surface condition of the the existing pads makes me wonder if I should consider junking them. Does glazing typically affect the material properties throughout the thickness of the pad, or can I simply skim them down a millimetre and continue to drive them down to their usual 3-4mm minimum?

My best guess is that they will work just fine. If not, you've lost nothing anyway as at least you will have bedded the discs & (I assume) will be fitting RS29 again.

Yep, just had the workshop inform me they've removed most of the glazing. I should bed them in again and see how it goes for the next 2-3 hours of track time. With 11mm thickness still left and 400 quid a pop, that's kind of a relief.

I use RS29 Porsche discs not Alcon and usually it's 2 sets of pads to 1 set of discs
In this instance I think I'd fit new pads to new discs and save the part ones for when the new pads are worn out as there is a risk the worn pads will accelerate disc wear
