I'm appealing to the PH community to help me find the official definition of the following Road Traffic sign;

I'm pretty certain I know what it means....but I'd like an official definition or preferably a link to one.
I'm trying to put together an argument (or to counter one) and, unfortunately, just quoting "some bloke on an internet forum [well known for it's dislike of all things BRAKE etc] " probably won't cut it. smile

I've tried googling for the TSRGD (?) but I couldn't find a reference to this specific sign.
To put this into context, the sign appears on one of the roads identified in the green panel just before a turning which "normal" traffic like cars or vans could use to reach the "Ind Estate" indicated.
TIA

I'd imagine it's purpose is to direct industrial traffic on to the locally designated/preferred route to the industrial estat, so that such traffic doesn't impact other local roads.

But haven't a clue where the regulation is for it smile

There probably isn't a regulation for it. It's probably just a suggested route. Unless the local roads have weight/width restrictions in place they could use the local roads.

It's a 'sign placed on a motorway, primary or non-primary route showing only recommended routes for goods vehicles ahead'.

Thanks SS. That's exactly it.......and a great link. Now I just have to find a definition of "goods vehicles". frown
Also, the wording seems very clumsy at first glance. Does it mean that "only" signs with that black background apply to "recommended routes for goods vehicles" as opposed to, say, ones with red backgrounds which only apply to MOD establishments? Apologies if that doesn't make too much sense.

Thanks to all the previous replies too......it's what I thought too.

The TSRGD defines a goods vehicle as

TSRGD 2016 said:
a motor vehicle or trailer constructed or adapted for use for the carriage or haulage of goods or burden of any description

Thanks Cat.

It looks like you could drive a bus through that definition then. wink

I guess you answered all my questions. What a great resource the PH community is!
Thanks for all your replies. This thread should be short and sweet.
Cheers

All we need now is the reason for the counter argument to bring this thread to a satisfactory conclusion wink

Bit more detail might help...

Are you trying to argue that wagons MUST take that route?
Are you countering that your wagon MUST NOT have taken a different route? It's this one, isn't it?

It's a suggestion, no more. Advisory. If there's a width or weight restriction on a different route, then that'd be signed separately.

'course, it's also a suggestion that'd be wise to follow, since you'll probably encounter stroppy nimbys going the other way...

In my experience the sign is the recommended route for goods vehicles,if restrictions are in place on other routes they will be signed seperately,ie weight ,width or height limits.
The signed routes usually give the easiest access for trucks .
