Hi I'm looking for guidance on Maserati 3200 GT

Hi I'm an Esprit owner but I've come over here looking for some advice and guidance.
My wife is looking to spend up to 30K on a sports car, coupe or cabriolet. So far she's decided on a 3L BMW z4, I'm trying to find alternatives, so I came up with the Maserati GT coupe, the Spyder which she thinks looks great seems to be out of her budget. So can you point me in the right direction: good dealers, problems, servicing. We're in Hertfordshire so there is the dealer in St. Albans which could be useful for servicing. Any way all info would be greatly appreciated.

Choice at your budget range is really gonna be a 3200GT - the early 4200's are going to be slightly out of budget at 30k I think. Spyders seem to start at around 35k, though you might find one for low 30s somewhere and be able to bargain...

Are you looking for manual / auto?

Zeddie - I hope your wife does not suffer from back problems. Has she driven a Z4? I test drove a 3.0L riding on the 18" wheels and the thing could dislodge fillings just crossing the white line. It had a worse, much worse ride than my Elise.

Overall I thought the Z4 was rather dissapointing.
Has she tried an Elise 111R?

In the firstcase you might as well read my profile - it's got a pretty comprehensive list of info about the car, driving impressions etc.

Servicing isn't cheap though, it's gonna cost you a lot more than a Z4 to run! Annual service is gonn be in the 750-1000 range, add consumables on top and you're probably looking at budgeting at least 2k per year to run - it is a supercar after all and in a league well above the Z4 in terms of power and interior quality. (then it should be given the new cost!)

Dont' want to put you off at all, but the last thing I'd want to do is have people not looking at the proper picture before buying and then being dissapointed later

4200s are a little cheaper to run as the N/A engine requried less serciving time. (this is the spyder engine too). There are spyders out there at reputable (non franchised) dealers for 35k and you could probably make a decent offer and not pay much more than 32500 for the right car. Get an independent warranty on top from a good source (there are several places you can choose from) and you're pretty well covered.

Never heard of Motor Zone - sounds interesting...if a little unusual, being located in Harlow!!!!

Well we saw 3 Maserati's at Motor Zone in Harlow, not far from us in Welwyn Garden City, Herts. Both 3200GT's were manuals, one in metalic BRG (which doesn't do much for the car in my opinion) and one in silver. They also had the 4200 Spyder in metallic blue - absolutely gorgeous but Michelle doesn't want to spend that much. The coupe is spacious in the rear for such a car and very practical. My wife was very impressed by the looks and sound of the GT. We weren't able to arrange a test drive but any way my wife will be looking for an auto as she had a broken leg some year ago and the clutch is quite heavy. So we'll be looking around to test drive some autos. Motor Zone in Harlow seems to sell some top stuff and were very helpful. Well I'll search out the Maserati dealers and specialists further and see what's around. She is looking to buy around the end of April, beginning of May.

I know it's quite a way from where you live but I found Graypaul in Nottingham were very helpful and they're not too far from the M1.

The chap I dealt with was Matthew and he had loads of time for me and my questions, plus the test drive was a fair length.
