A friend of mine has just imported a porker 944 Turbo from California, I couldn't help but notice the speaker grilles...

Looks familiar, I've no idea what they're intended to do on our cars though!

Hi mate

I think it might of been to avoid popping the plastic window out when you close the door...Would make sense if the car didn't leak like a sieve anyway...smile

I covered mine up...Might be why my roof panel popped off...yikes

On the wedge internal/external ventilation and 'helping'demisting of the front screen and build-up of pressure with the roof up and windows closed?
Have this grill on the right hand door (passenger for me...) and seems useless, expect if the theory above stacks up.

Ah- so that's what it's for....

Mind you I get a severe draft from around the internal door catch so I guess it's not needed...

Interesting thought Ziggy...

I've never bought into the idea that it's to stop the pressure pulse when you slam a door; however maybe it does make sense if the aerodynamics are such that the interior pressurises in some way at speed and makes the roof flap, or worse. I also have the drafty elbow thing going on on my car but maybe when the cars were new and the seals actually did the 'seal' thing there was a problem with the interior pressurising at speed.
