I am running rooster with Toyo proxes on the rear and bridgestone SO2 on the front. Someone yesterday said I should have Toyo all round, ideally I'll get them all round when the SO2 wear out but is it ok to have different ones front and rear? I don't drive like a loony and my garage has not mentioned it could be a problem and i am sure they would have!

Sounds OK to me, the tyres are very similar anyway. You could try increasing the pressure in the Toyos by a couple of PSI but I don't think it makes that much difference.

I can't see a problem myself. Different types of tyres give different grip characteristics in different conditions, however the SO2 (PP?) has good tractability both wet and dry, and I believe the Toyo Proxes do too (not tried them myself). Accordingly I don't think you are going to cause yourself a problem there.

I think the risks are probably comparable with running a brand new set of brand X tyres on one end of your car and a part worn set of the same ones on the other end. Nothing more major than that.

Id change all four.
Tyres have a use by date too.
So now youll have halve plastic halve good rubber.
Would you drink milk a year old,and that probably still is'nt capable of killing you.

A set of SO2 PP's will last 6-12 months on a "driven" Chim so I wouldn't be worrying about use by dates

Agreed,my post was based on that most so2's floating about are older than 6/12/18 months since theyve become scarce.
Also based on personel experience facing the other side of the road with one set of older so2's fitted when I should of known better.
