My 6000 mile service is coming up and also my warranty is also up so the only issues I need resolved is the noise / creak when I drop through the gears at high revs. I think this has been discussed befor so can anybody enlighten me.Has anybody else had this and have they got it sorted. It has been in the car since day one but has never caused me problems just slighty disconcerting.

Thanks,

Alan

"they all do that sir"

Just blip the throttle on the down change and you won't get the problem. It's all to do with matching the revs to the engine speed. Or something like that !

Nothing to worry about - apparently.

Just out of interest have you asked the dealer to make sure you have the latest map. Might be worth mentioning. Mines is going in tomorrow for it.

I usuall heal blip the throttle on high rev downchanges so don't get the noise. However on track (1st outing for the car) I was not kuick or experienced enough to think about heal and toe as well as getting round the corner before the bloke behind me climbed up my tail pipe.......(you know what I mean), anyway, the downchange noise was huge. A real raquet, but I figured that its quite normal.

On another note, I was told that the steel brake hose upgrade is something that makes it a lot easier to heal and toe with. Any comments lads? (or ladies?)

There are two mods. One is to get the braided hoses replaced with solid nikasil (?) pipes. Thats for brake feel and preventing some fade on track. The other is getting the pedals moved making heal and toe easier. I think you can get them done individually. Changing the brake pipes is reasonably pricey, but the pedal mod just looks like they bent it a bit

Let the clutch out quicker and it will go away.

Thanks guys but dont think its a revving problem. This sounds like a metal on metal sound coming from the left hand side of the car. The faster I let the clutch out as I change down the the gears the more likelyhood of the noise appearing.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks,

Alan

Any chance of a video/audio capture of the noise?

Does it happen under braking? Of course it might be the brakes rattling when decelerating without them so testing using the brakes won't help

It does sound like the "matching revs" problem. If you can't heal-and-toe to blip the throttle when you down change, try breaking earlier and get back on to the throttle as you go through neutral. Not ideal for every-day driving, but it should illustrate whether the problem goes away with correctly matched engine revs.

Alan,

You'll find this noise is common to all cars and its unlikely there's a fault. It tends to occur, not when you downchange quickly, but when you release the clutch sharply. A quick blip of the throttle between changes, or heel and toe if you're braking, should smooth the change and kill the noise.

It's all very well telling us how to minimise the noise but what's making that racket in the first place?
I've never had it on other cars.

Can't say I've had the noise in mine, but one thing that it 'may' be. Anyone know how Quaife torque biasing diffs take to negative load? If someone (other than me obviously ) would like to try a standing start in reverse we may find out .

It's a bit random it seems. My 2.5 never did it, my M400 does it occasionally if I don't get my H&T correct going into second.

It only does it once though it seems.

All a bit weird!
