I am currently watching about 8 policemen trying to unlock a complete block of (20 or so ) private garages. They each have a bunch of about fifty keys.

What would be the point of this action ? Presumably any thing they find would be inadmissible without a search warrant , and if they had one , wouldn't they ask the owners to open them up ?

Anyway , I'm sure a court wouldn't just issue a warrant 20 adjacent properties on the police say so would they ?

Any Bib "in the know" ?

Just like you see them knocking on the door at 6 am saying " just popped round for a chat with Dave about some drugs. Is he in? We've got a warrant. Oh, he's out is he? Oh well, we'll pop back later then"

Doesn't it come under the heading of reason to believe etc?

It's up to the policeman/Woman asking for the warrant to convince the magistrate that there are good resaons to search all the garages, they need to show due diligence in their research and that they have considered such things as the rights and privacy of innocent parties.

If all things considered there seem to be good reasons to search a group of properties for illegal activities with or without owners present then they will be granted a warrant. It's not just a rubber stamp but it would usually need to be pretty sloppy not to be granted.
