Boxter 986 pricing question
Discussion
A friend is being offered £5k for his boxter 986 as a partex vs nearly new boxter. It's not an S but ... he has owned it since it was about 1 yr old in 1999 having bought it from the main dealer. The car has a bit over £20k miles and has a Porsche dealer service stamp for EVERY year of its life. In fact it has never not been to that dealer. Everything is original. It could benefit from some detailing but overall it's a great car.
I think that's a low price and I am telling him to sell privately but he seems to prefer the ease.
My questions:
What do you think the private sale value is
How quickly do they sell at the right price. It is an old model and not an S. he wants to do a sea on a new car so isn't willing to sit on it until it sells

Is it a 2.5 and tiptronic or manual?
Are you saying it has juts over 20k on the clock since new?
To put it into context I have a 2003 2.7 that I bought 3 months ago in pristine Condition. 1 owner from new, thousands spent all main dealer with 50k on the clock. I paid just over 6k for it.
All depends on the condition of the car you will get more privately (maybe 6-7k touch more). But there a lot of cars out there it will have to compete against.
Px the car means you don't have to sit around for the next few months and waiting on those calls etc. Some of the cars I saw a few months ago (and we're in good Nick?) Are still for sale.
So in short you will get more than your being offered but the condition of the car is crucial and when I buy car that's over 20 years old I buy on condition rather than miles etc. Saw some horrendous low milage cars and some pristine higher milage when looking. 5k for a 2.5 is not bad.

As another data point, I paid £4800 for a 1 owner 1997 986 manual last year with 39K miles, albeit with "mileage rather than annual" service stamps. £5K is a pretty generous trade in value but I would expect a bit more privately (I am in the market myself currently so have been looking around a lot). It's springtime now so the "wait until spring to sell your convertible" sales have appeared, flooding the market, which may affect how long it takes to sell privately.
Thanks for the replies and insight. I am a bit surprised how much car you can get for such little money. i would have thought it would be worth 10k myself but he has had a few more words with the dealer and he seems to have got some extra sweeteners.
Actually the car is 2001/2 rather than 1999.
The dealer is saying that if he trades the car in, they will also give him a much better finance deal which will save him another 7k over 5 yrs on his nearly new 718. Apparently without the trade-in they would not give him that deal ... which I would be surprised. So they are marketing it as 13k in his pocket.
I still think if he walked in as a cash buyer he would have got a few grand off asking (maybe even the full 5k off a £60k+ price tag and the same deal they are offering on finance.
