£275 2002 Renault Megane Convertible

Collected today and drove back the 80ish miles and drives perfectly... it has a full Renault service history, 11mths MOT, recent timing and aux belt change (incl. water and aux pump) plus discs and pads all round ... and a huge load of receipts incl the original bill of sale ... all for £275!

Leathers seen better days but a feed and dye will sort it out! Bumpers could do with reseating and need a little some touching up ... and the last picture shows what I think is an old RAC TrafficMaster voice system that I need to figure out how to remove !!

My Brother had the Coupé version of this shape and was a decent car if i remember rightly

I have a 2001 one that I bought for peanuts seven or eight years ago. I run it over the summer with six months tax from April. It goes through the MOT with little or no work and drives very quietly and economically (1.6 16v 91000 miles). Watch the micro sensors in the hood and do not interrupt the roof opening and closing or you will have problems. I know they are not an MX5 but with the roof down and four people heading away to the seaside it's not a bad place to be! Just fitted a new radio this morning - a Polarlander Bluetooth from Amazon retailing at £17! Works fine and phone reception just as good as in my Golf.

Bargain! Some good shed purchasing going on at the minute on PH. That's cheap as chips ready for the summer, and when the roof's down who cares that it's a wee bit scruffy in places. I believe that the roof on this model is far better than the later CC models too which, like the Focus CC were prone to leaks.

This will be my 5th cab (and had 3 coupes) as well - ordered a few bits and pieces to sort out some minor niggles and restraining myself from tearing it down today haha ... possibly the smoothest running Megane I've had to date as well!

So cheap! I remember driving a rented hatchback version across South Africa back in the day. It was indestructible despite our best efforts of indecent speeds on dirt roads and mountain passes. I remember being pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!

I had a yellow one from 02-05. Poverty spec 1.6 Expression with cloth interior and manual roof. Loved it.

Yellow is a colour I've flirted with a few times but never actually bought, something always puts me off at the last hurdle for some reason, as I do actually like the colour!

Headed over to the lockup this morning to:

Take the number plates off ... plate had been riveted on the rear and anti vandal bolts on the front so couldn't not take it off with just my few basic tools in the garage

Remove the TrafficMaster system completely ... the RAC really made a dogs breakfast fitting this and body's loads of trim back on rather than searing it all correctly, took a while to remove but it's all out now!

Sort the 12v accessory socket and why that's not working ... fuse was removed from the box, dutifully replaced

Assess the paintwork properly ... I had some concerns on the paintwork and sea of minor scratches, clay barred (aggressive clay and Megs QD) a small area and I have never seen so much dirt come off, scratches aren't I'm the paintwork either, they're in the base layer of fallout and the paint is actually pretty mint underneath for a 15yr old beater, so I cleansed, filler', polished and waxed the top of the boot lid and it looks in better shape that the paint on my Q7

Remove the driver door card and power mirror switch that's broken ... not sure what's happened here as some of the panels been superglued and botched (assuming where they've tried to fix the mirror switch previously and then gave up and glued it) so need to source a replacement

Assess the aerial situation and why it's covered with gaffer tape ... aerial has been totally snapped out, no big deal got a discreet t-bar aerial ordered and going to fill and blend the rear quarter

Assess the engine bay and see what the state is ... everything here was pretty good, all levels correct, oil looks like it's been changed recently, only down side is a damaged hose from the cold air intake to the air box which is easily replaced

Check out the dint in the n/s sill ... this isn't actually too bad and shouldn't be more than £50-75 to get sorted by my bodywork guy

Clean and feed the leather ... the Mrs has stolen my zymol leather cleaner and intensive leather balm from my detailing bag for the living room sofas (which I wasn't aware of) so I couldn't even start this! Typical!

Not too bad for a quick 90mins

So I have been diligently sorting the niggles out in between working away, and today went to swap the wheels for a set of the Lyra style alloy that only came on the 2.0 IDE variant and as I jacked it up, the coil snapped and threw a 8inch piece towards my face ... great!

so I have put the wheel on and eased it back into the garage and now am sourcing a replacement set of coils for the front ... never changed anything like this before but its now un-driveable so I dont have much of a choice!

Other than that its cleaned up ok, waiting on some filler for the aerial hole and then getting a bodyshop to sort the dint, scuffs and filled section and it'll be pretty immaculate!

Whatever you do Dont scrimp on the coil compression kit, some are pretty dangerous.
