was thinking about buying a M6 V10, seen one on autotrader website, indy garage down in Glasgow, looked up the plate on the web, it seems the car started life in the UK, then ended up been exported to Ireland, then its now appeared back in Glasgow, found a advert for it on gumtree from jan 2016, since then the gar has had no tax and run out of mot in july 2016, so get a feeling its been at the indy garage for while, it is at quite a high price and usual concours condition st, so something aint adding up, and i hear story's of if car goes to ireland, to be fixed after crash and replated with irish plate to clean its history

anyone else spotted it or general thoughts?

I've had one since December. 2005, 83k miles, full leather, carbon interior. So far I've been rather unlucky and performed some PM.

-clutch and flywheel £1200
-re-laquer carbon fibre roof £1100
-Continental sport contact 6 £800
-pads and discs £1000
-throttle actuators £640
-de-limit £250

I was well researched about the potential faults, but didn't expect them all to occur within 4 months!

When I bought my E60 M5 I made sure I bought one that had already had a clutch and flywheel replaced. Already had 4 new tyres also. Bought under 60k miles and put Mondial warranty on it which covered replacement of both throttle actuators when they failed in 2015. Never needed discs and pads. Owned it for 4 years and it was a total joy and never gave me any expensive bills.
Sounds like you researched well but didn't follow through with the research advice!
That V10 is a masterpiece, hopefully your done with the spending for a while!

I couldn't agree more, Mondial warranty is the smart way to go. A sub 60k full leather M6 with carbon interior are very rare. But the clutch and flywheel had only been replaced 20k miles ago, a sensor failed which lunched them, otherwise they would have been fine. The tyres, brakes and roof were not essential but I didn't trust the existing brakes and tyres in a pursuit to do 200mph!

Tyre technology had come along a fair bit with the arrival of MPSS, PS4S and Continental Sport Contact 6, let alone Pirelli offerings.

One throttle actuator had already been replaced with an OEM unit also, but I opted to have them both replaced together with updated versions.

I'm not bashing the M6, great engine and shifts at 8250 rpm are breathtaking but I've just had a run of bad luck which should hopefully be over now.... (crosses toes and fingers).

It's an amazing car, lots of character, but as with any high performance car has its risks. I've owned mine for 2 years, put 30K miles on it.

Costs have been reasonable so far, ABS/DSC pump thingy fixed under warranty, other than that just running costs. Just don't mention the fuel consumption!

I now SORN mine every winter and bring it out in April (ie now). Fantastic sense of drama starting it up and hearing it warm up. The novelty of 8250 revs never wears off either.

These cars look like a difficult sell as too many threads about rod bearings and mpg so not massively surprised that it's sat at a dealer for a while. If I were buying now I'd probably be patient and look for a private seller.

Regarding rod bearings, I'm having the oil analysis done this week. Will report back with the results.

Isn't exporting to Ireland, them bringing back to the UK a way of losing a write off Cat c/d status?

AAUI when it's registered there they take no heed of its write off status and the same when it's registered back with the dvla.

Don't want to sound dramatic, mind.

I had one for 18 months; between November 2013 and June 2015.

When it worked - and was properly fixed - it was EPIC.

Other times, I could not stand the sight of it and used to walk past it with elevated blood pressure and a bulging vein from my forehead.

Just make sure it's been looked after properly and the major work done to it to avoid any nasty surprises.
