Hi all.

www.5ive-o.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12

Here's a link to a police run web-site which deals with giving advice to people unsure of what to do when faced with the daunting prospect of receiving speeding tickets etc.

It probably won't interest the vast majority over here, as they "don't offer get outs", but it's an interesting site - and the members appear to be open to a bit of debate about procedure etc. I would urge everyone, however, not to go on any police rants about cameras etc. as it is a futile exercise.

Cheers.

There are a couple of forums up and running now....

I've browsed them...but not registered yet....Hope a 'Streetcop' username hasn't been taken..

Nice to see that the 'advice' sections of these forums are being actively visited and ideas shared...without BiB bashing and whines about 'safety cameras'

I only complain about speed cameras as an alternative to human trafpol.

However, used in addition to trafpol and sited properly and correctly, they are a useful piece of road safety equipment.

My comment was more aimed at the fact that the other forum share information and are quite flexible in the approach...

Not...speed cameras everywhere...burn em burn em..

at your last bit.

As for the rest of the message, you seem to be suggesting that, in contrast to the other forum, people here do not share information, are not flexible in their approach and spend their time obsessing about burning speed cameras.

And in your professional opinion, what percentage of speed cameras meet your criteria?

In my force area....I know of about 5 locations (of fixed cameras) where they aren't in the best location..ie: scene of recent collisions or speed complaint.

Out of nearly 50 cameras...I suppose that isn't a bad percentage..IMHO

For those who don't know what Streetcop is referring to, Sidney Harman wrote a book called "Mind your own Business". What the heck are you on about, Streetcop?

10% of cameras wrongly sited. No I guess that isn't too bad. But I hope that those 10% are not disproportionately handing out fines.

But what's this about "speed complaint"? Is that sufficient justification for a camera? Who has to complain to get one? And is there the opportunity for counterarguments to be submitted? Why don't cameras need planning permission!?
