I am at my parents today waiting on a non-existent 3 piece suite to be delivered rolleyes

Anyway, this show is on. This must be where all quiz show applicants who are too stupid for the other shows end up.

Host "In which county is the city of Derby"
Thicky 1 "pass"

Host "What profession is often referred to as a Brickie"
Thicky 2 "plumber"

How the host keeps a straight face I don't know, maybe he's heard worse.

hehe

Maybe a TV bod can confirm but I have a daft thought there is some sort of testing in the applications and you get offered a slot in differing difficulties of game shows based on your results.

I went for an audition for The Chase. I am a big fan of the chase and quite well versed on general knowledge and pretty good under pressure.

After a day of different tests/challenges alone and in groups we were told to wait in a room (20 of us) and told we would be told who is going through.

There were a wide mix of ages/backgrounds/skill levels.....

And nobody was picked rofl

There was a serious WTF?! Moment when they thanked us for our time and sent us off. I laughed but some people got really upset!

Did the host just say Benjamin Franklin was a president of the USA? He was founding father of the USA he was never president.

Jeez, it's bad enough when the thickies get it wrong, but the host this time!

Useful insight. I'm probably an average Joe and don't think I have the range of knowledge to excel at The Chase, might do okay, but would expect to breeze Tipping Point.

No ambition to appear on TV though.

Interesting. You could say Mrs PB and I are mildly addicted to The Chase - it's routine for us to get in from work and watch it - and I always declare I should put in for it. But never do. I hadn't realised there was much more than fill out an application and turn up on the day they're filming it if you get in.

Zero desire to appear on the idiot box, but even allowing for the pressure aspect one wonders at times about people, especially as they must think they're a bit smart. OK we can all get questions that are outside our area, eg youngsters getting a question about TV shows in the 60s, say, or me getting a question about football, though I'd be cock on with cricket.

On the Chase, has anyone ever gamed the Chaser, ie do completely pathetically in the cash builder, get a ridiculously generous top offer, accept it and then pull out the stops.

Not just the questions, strategies, Tipping Point, it's clear you're not going to get the top prize, so why keep plugging away, change track and go for some cash ffs. Only seen one guy do that, and of course he was from Yorkshire, good lad.

Guess what, boring afternoon back at base turned this rubbish on again for a giggle.

Q - "England expects that every man will do his duty" was said by which famous English naval officer?
A - Napoleon.

Still at least she did get the question about what kitchen item is colloquially called a fridge.

Is Tipping Point the one with little orchestra in the corner, for no obvious reason?

No it isn't and no I don't watch this drivel but have seen bits n bobs of it.

Thread revival smile

Anyone else notice that whenever there is a relatively young good looking female contestant on the show, they are always located at the same podium, second from the left? hehe

I'm sure people must audition to be on an ITV quiz; the fairly bright ones end up on The Chase, the not so bright ones go to Tipping Point. I enjoy the show, catching episodes from time to time, but I do feel the questions are a lot easier there than on The Chase.

Not much to add to the thread, but I do know someone who went on TP and ended up winning around 3k iirc.

Treated his family to a holiday.

Wasn't his first time on TV either, after he disappeared from work for a couple of weeks ish without telling anyone why...

And after that the rest end up on Lightning BBC2.

That lot make the below average Tipping Point contestant like a winner of a Mastermind final with a score of 30 pts.

It’s feel-good TV. Mainly as when you feel at your most worthless, you see the contestants and feel an instant boost in confidence.
