Oh, I dunno...
1) If they are torched often enough, the loss of revenue while they are out of action, coupled with the cost of repair, will mean that they are not economically viable. They will then be quietly replaced with illuminated speed warning signs which have been proved to be just as effective and which don't piss people off enough to go round torching them.
2) The politicians may start to get the message that if otherwise law abiding people are angry enough to either do this, or support it, then they can be damned sure it is a vote loser.
Torch the lot, I say!

Not so SC!
Think about it for a second.
The scammers make revenue from fines, where the evidence supplied is from scameras.
Cost of a gatso housing is approx 4k. Installation/maintainance is oh gotta be 10K.
Scamera "guts" puts the cost up to around the 30k mark.
Now, the good Captain comes along and hangs a Pirelli off of it and proceeds to warm it thoroughly for a half hour, thereby destroying the offending article.
The scammers have at the very least just lost 4K for a housing.
Its gotta be made safe (more money spent not "earned") and the scamera thats been krispy fried is another 20K down the tubes.
Thats an "outgoing" cost to the scammers.
If every scamcam got this treatment every week, theyd be OUT in a week.
Still think its pointless and the situation cant be changed?
Burn the bloody lot of em NOW!
