They also have a shutdown in the summer for two weeks, I believe it is compulsory and is obviously paid holiday but it is only the production staff. The reasoning is that for the other weeks of the year they have a full complement of staff and not people off all over the place effecting production because a key member of staff is a his jolly's.

Crikey, if the absence of an individual member of staff can affect production, then I'd say the risk element of the due diligence wasn't done very well.
I think 'shutdowns' are just traditional in some parts of the country now. They were originally put in place in eg the steel industry so that furnaces etc could be cooled for maintenance. Nowadays even massive process plant cuts shutdowns to a minimum by use of risk based maintenance and remote condition monitoring because the traditional shutdown is so costly.

Wondered when this would break. Heard about this and a cpl of other instances young Nick is "alleged" to have engaged in a little sharp practice back home. Odds on bets up north are for "Interesting Times" ahead, esp as daddy is "allegedly" planning on taking more of an interest.

Just for the record "shuts downs" are associated with the automobile and support industries. These shut downs use to be more common than they are now. Although the majority of Europe still shuts down for August, hence one never goes to France in the High Season.
In England a lot of our Automotive customers used to shut down for 2-3 weeks a year it's normally a compulsory 1 week shut down now.
Not sure in this instance though way TVR shut down this week!
