Annoying Dealer experience
Discussion
Put A Deposit down on an A1 a few weeks ago. We made it clear it had to have a minimum spec that two cars on their forecourt matched. BUT "we have a 66 Plate with only one thing missing coming in next week". If it's not what you want we can get one that is. So we put down a deposit. Week passes and car isn't in yet. It will be in Tuesday comes in Tuesday and "we are just getting the photos ready" . The pictures are sent next morning to me. Six emails turn up, all the same. The car has nothing of the Minimum spec requested let alone any desirable features barring the better engine. Wife rings up to check and basically accused of lying about what she wanted and knowing what the car had on it despite being assured by the Salesman it had everything requested barring a feature that could be added once we said yes. OH and the car depending on whose story you believe WAS on site at the weekend. Wife is very annoyed at being lied to, accused of lying herself and wasting nearly two weeks waiting for the dealer to get the details to us and missing out on other cars in the meantime. Deposit is being refunded and we are off elsewhere.
It would be much easier to be upfront about what the score is at the dealer end. I was trying to purchase from about 150 miles from one, agreed the price, left a deposit, and then got the runaround. Delay in additional pictures and generally moving the sale forward. Chsp's face was a picture when I wandered in first thing one morning after having had enough of the nonsense. Really just no need for it.

Not sure that I understand the principle of paying a deposit for a car that the dealer doesn't have but if he does get it it might or might not be the right spec?
Surely you confirmed required spec in writing?
Only thing missing according to the sales person was Sat Nav. Only When they sent the video was it obvious Neither the Comfort pack or the Climate were part of the spec. Surely you confirmed required spec in writing?
Most Audi main dealer sales staff don't seem to know the specs of what they've got, never mind what they might get in a week or 2.....can't be that hard - they've only got 1 brand to sell and they've even got the tools to look up the exact factory spec!
The quality of used stock seems highly variable - we were offered a 'mint' S5 Sportback before we found ours - drove half a lap of the M25 to be confronted with a low miles car, but with a significant ding in every wheel arch from what looked like a life spent parked in a supermarket car park, plus a poor previous repair on the FNS wing that they claimed had required the wing to come off to access the washer bottle (yeah, right!) and a load of spec missing compared to what we'd been told and was in the advert.
I'd never leave a deposit over the phone unless it was for a token amount and I was guaranteed in writing that it would be refunded on inspection if I didn't want it, for any reason.
