ACT De-Catted Manifolds
Discussion
Following my smack with the pothole earlier this month, causing one of my manifolds to crack, I'm having ACT's stainless de-catted ones fitted to replace them.
I'm just wandering what benefits/difference I can expect after having them fitted. Apart from the fact their cheaper than the catted manifolds will there be any noise/performance benefit or increasd torque etc?

As far as I'm aware thats just for the main Cats which are staying put. It's just the pre-cats that will be missing from the manifolds.
Ahhh... that makes sense, I was with M@H on that one, I thought the main cats were coming out.
You should be okay without the precats. I know a few people who have had them out with no MoT problems etc.
Derekg500 had his precats removed by Austec and got a fat lump of extra torque
(although I understand that the extent of this even surprised Austec somewhat). You should get better breathing, and the noise will certainly be improved
. The ACT stuff is so well made, I would expect the manifolds to be pretty durable and robust. They'll no doubt look quite sexy too

Any joy with suing the council for that damage?
Not yet,
I've sent letters and photos to both the council and Anglian Water.
The council have stated they are going to pass my claim on to County but believe it will be rejected under the roads and Streetworks Act, which puts liability for works and finishings onto Anglian Water.
Currently waiting for AW to come back to me and state their position before taking legal advice as to who is actually responsible for this!
Looks like I'm going to have to sit on a fairly hefty credit card bill for a while though...

Tim or MA should be the best guys to quote you figures but I think that you can expect an additional 20 lbs ft throughout; this is what I've been lead to believe.
I understand that the improvements in the ACT/JP manifolds over the OE, lie in the headers having a less severe radius for the exhaust gasses to negotiate when leaving the heads. The internal bore of the headers is also reduced (1 3/4" to 1 5/8") which, through R and D, proved optimal for scavenging. It's all a black art and beyond my comprehension though. The aurals are different (not beyond my comprehension) and if the rest of your system is standard I think you'll find that it provides one of the sweetest tunes to be played on an RV8 (you'll see
). Believe me, there's a whole difference between what just sounds loud and what sounds GOOD!petros said:
i,ll be gobsmacked if you get that sort of improvement. i,ve just had the new manifolds, new carbon trumpets, act induction pipes and a tornado chip and that,s the sort of gain i made. peter
Hmm, it's a fair old wad of extra twist to pick up isn't it; I'm sure someone'll have some back to back comparisons to verify. If not, then I've been talkin' out of my A**e; but these are figures I've heard bandied from more than one unrelated source. As I mentioned earlier, Tim or Mark Adams will have honest answers. Having fitted these manifolds myself to replace my non-reversal coned items, I'd be interested to see if there were any improvements to be had in that modification, though I wouldn't expect much. Hoping to be on the rollers before too long and have an Omex ignition mapped. Before the mapping I'll ask for a power run to make comparisons with my last plot and find an answer.
