You know when people want a day off work and they say stuff like "Oh, I had a touch of flu" or "A touch of Gastroenteritis"?

A couple of years ago I had the Flu, the real one and you don't get "a touch of it", it's horrendous and lasts a couple of weeks leaving you completely floored.

Now I've just added Gastroenteritis.
Started feeling a bit sick Thursday night watching the football at home, thought nothing of it and went to bed. Woke up at 12:30 with the most violent diarrhoea I can remember having, what felt like gallons of putrid water blasting out of me over and over again. About 4 in the morning the projectile vomiting started followed by the shakes and mild delerium (couldn't remember which room was which in my house!)

Fell asleep at about 8 Friday morning in a zombie state and promptly st myself, the second I dropped off my bowels just let go! More of this all day Friday including puking up foul yellow bile when there was nothing else available, couldn't even keep water down. By this time I had crippling stomach cramps and all my joints felt like they were on fire. The stting finally eased up on Saturday morning then I just felt like death and could barely climb out of bed, I remember very little of yesterday.

I finally felt normal enough to eat about four spoonfuls of soup this morning a full 63 hours since the last time I had any food. I've lost 10 pounds in weight but I wouldn't recommend it as a dietary aid.

We'd booked a lovely bank holiday Spa break in a posh hotel near Norwich and had restaurants lined up for both evenings. Luckily the O/H managed to cancel everything with no fee.

Don't catch this stuff, it's not fun!

Had gastroenteritis, ended up in hospital for three days on a drip. Like you couldn't eat for days.

Unfortunately lead to me developing Ulcerative Colitis (which is far from a blast!). Keep an eye on yourself for a while after, and if anything untoward comes up, see your GP. Make sure you don't bury your head in the sand like I did frown

Awful isn't it. I had a recent episode of botulism from some olives that I'd returned to three weeks after first opening the jar.

It's awful when there's FA you can do about it other than wait (or weight wink) it out

I just looked that up Dave, sounds very painful, thanks for the warning.

Here's a tip for anyone who gets gastroenteritis, buy imodium, it's the only reason I got any sleep in the end. They come as little tabs that dissolve instantly on your tongue, if they had been pills you have to swallow with water I wouldn't have kept them down.

I have a previously opened jar of olives in the fridge right now, they're definitely going in the bin!

Excellent idea. I've not had an olive since (about a month ago now) and when I do inevitably buy some more I'll be eating them in one sitting.

I'd not thought of imodium so the next time I'm ill I might give them a go. That's if I could make it out of the house that is!

Keep up the salt and sugar intake. I normally hate energy drinks but times like this Lucozade has its place.
