I've lusted after both of these for some time and I am now in a position to make the move.

I like the modern California for its looks, performance and everyday usability.

I love the 612.... well because is gorgeous.

I have 2 little ones aged 4.5 and 2.5 and I I want them both to be able to experience the fun rather than just taking my Mrs out for the day.

So I'm considering 80k for the 612 and 100k for the California. Which of the two would be the safest money wise? I think this is the deal breaker to be honest!

Well, one's a cab - could you decide on this angle?

California has almost no space in the rear. If this is genuinely important to you, which I expect it is, it can't be a viable consideration. 612 has more space.

Edit to add, perhaps consider the Maserati GranCabrio. Probably ticks convertable, roomy exotic box better than anything else.

Calfornia prices have been drifting sideways for a while. Good looks and hard folding roof make it a decent buy. Some purists dislike it, though, as it is basically a rebadged Maserati. And the interior trim of the first-gen models is nowhere near as plush as something else from around the same time, like an F430.

Try getting the kids into the California. It will be very difficult if not impossible sadly.

You won't Get kids in the back of a cali very easily. Left field suggestion : I'm in a similar situation. Considering an aston rapide. Utterly gorgeous looking, proper v12, sounds great, rear tv screens and rear doors

I have a 2008 612 OTO. I wanted something to do longer trips in and also to be able to fit another couple in - or my two teenage girls. It was also intended to be an experiment in car investment in that I don't plan to put too many miles on it (around 1,500 yearly) and am hoping for some appreciation over five years or so to cover maintenance costs which have turned out to be around £2000 a year so far. I believe they have held value or even appreciated over the last couple years but to be honest I love the car so much that I have no plans to sell - ever. Just an amazing car and while it can photograph badly, in the flesh it looks absolutely gorgeous. I did also consider an AM Rapide but at the time couldn't see those doing anything but depreciate for a few years still.

I have recently changed my 550 for a 612, its a wonderful car with plenty of proper room in the back even for adults. Plus the V12 is so incredibly addictive. Regarding holding their prices or increasing maybe its about 50/50 which will be best perform. I suggest just look and drive them both. What I can say is the 612 is definitely getting better with age.
