Mercedes SLK 55 171 - Having both iPod/Aux Inputs connected
Discussion
Have an '05 MB SLK 55 AMG with dealer fitted retrofit iPod connection & COMAND NTG 1.
The Aux port has been disconnected in favour of the iPod connection but I would like to have both connected at the same time via a switch/relay so can have the use of either when required. iPod is great but I use spotify/digitial radio a lot so to have option of connecting that via phone > Aux would be great.
The iPod interface outputs sound through the same plug as the AUX port connection on the back of the Comand unit. You can only have one or the other connected at either time.
The input plug into the back of the Comand is a 3 pin plug, which consists of left, right sound & an earth. Page 41 at the lower right hand corner details the picture/plug and wiring on the link below.

I've thought about just splicing the wires together onto one plug, but not sure how this will effect sound quality? Would also have to find a method of switching the iPod off aswell.
Another forum member has suggested a 3 pole / double throw switch to switch the inputs completely which at the moment seems like the best and straight forward idea. However the switches seem to be difficult to come across in the configuration I'd be looking for. I've found the one below, not sure how suitable it would be? I've been unable to find anything else, they all seem to be 6 pin in 3 different on/off configurations. Could a 4 pin switch be used with a common ground/shielding?

Any other thoughts on how this could be completed? Audio has never been my thing.
Thanks in advance
Chris
