They don't make anything like they used to!

Back in the day My Uncle had a P4 rover with a battery that was nearly 20 years old before he dropped it and broke the case.
He used to brew his own sulphuric acid mix and had an industrial mercury bulb trickle charger, I think he also emptied the battery every year and topped up with his own mix, to say he was tight would be an understatement he didn't by a colour TV until 1985.

6 years in on an Optima Yellow Top on my car.

I'm really impressed and jealous at the same time. I seem to be gifted at destroying batteries within a few weeks.

Love the story of the home made brew.

My battery is connected to an Optimate battery charger/conditioner when the car is not being used.

Similar for me, I have had two red top 40's since building in 1997, both maintained on Optimates.

The first started to give up after 8 years, I suspect because I wasn't treating it that well, but it still does a fine job as a jumpstart battery,

2nd is still going strong...

Mine is also seventeen years old and going strong. No battery conditioner, but also no current drain when the ignition is off and it has never been allowed to deep discharge.

That's it, you've cursed it now, it will probably fail this week.
