I'm going to be passing Le Mans on race weekend, so obviously I'm keen to have a quick look in. I've not been to LM24 since 1990 and I'm wondering how possible its going to be to just rock up and have a peek.

I'm in Poitiers on Friday night , and Laval on Saturday night. Can I just arrive at LM on Saturday morning, park, and then buy a GA ticket and watch the first 5 or 6 hours, then head off to Laval? Well, I know it's possible but am I likely to end up stewing in traffic for 6 hours and then only get to see the backs of heads?

What do you think?

One tip to avoid the traffic might be to park up somewhere in the suburbs and get the tram to the circuit. (Maps etc = http://www.setram.fr/ )

If you arrive early traffic will not be that bad, parking is more of a problem but you will find somewhere, tickets are always available on the gate. As few view of the race, it is a massive circuit and you will find somewhere to watch the start, after that you will have no problems

Thanks for that. I like the suburb parking idea, and then get the tram to Tetre Rouge.
Cheers

I did similar last year and ended up in sitting in traffic for hours, I bought a parking ticket for Expo in advance.
Definitely consider the tram...

Glad I read this. Next year or the year after I will be taking the missus and my step son, planning to stay in a hotel and drive up on the day for a few hours viewing on both days (nothing more than a look around and a meal).
I was going to stay an hour away in a really nice town East of Le Mans (name forgotten atm).
Having read this I now know to book a hotel in Le Mans (Novotel probably) and take the tram to the circuit in plenty of time.
