Chimaera 5.0 ltr - Daily Driver anyone ?
Discussion
Can anyone comment on using a 5.0 ltr as their daily mode of transport ? I'm interested to know how practical such a proposition is. It would be for about a 50 mile round trip on good A roads without much traffic. I'd be interested to know average about fuel consuption if anyone has any figures.

I am also thinking of doing this in a years time, I will be travelling 7 miles each way to work and back on country lanes. From what I have read on here it seems that TVR's are more reliable if they are used every day.
I don't want to tempt fate, so I'm not going to comment on that bit...!
With the mileage I'm doing the car gets up to full temperature, even in the depths of winter... you might find yourself taking the scenic route if you're only doing 7 miles each way...

Anything between 180 and 260 from about £45
I'm sure theres a flaw in the maths but thats what I found...
I concur, I start looking for a petrol station at 180 miles, irrespective of the petrol gauge.
I really should look to see what sort of mileage I get out of a tank… I just fill up as soon as it shows a quarter full…
I run my 500 every day it's not at the workshop getting the rear wheel bearing mended. Again.
It doesn't run that far, and it heats up pretty quick in this climate and the traffic.
As for fuel consumption, I just don't care. If I wanted a fun-to-drive convertible that ran on the smell of an oily rag, I'd have got an MX-5. It's light weight makes for reasonable economy anyway, subject to the discretion of the right Welly.
In short, these things are quite capable of being used as an every day driver, but don't expect the running costs of a Polo. This is not what TVR's are about.
Happy TVR-ing.

Don't worry about the fuel consumption. The pleasure you get from driving it (and it will be enormous pleasure) more than makes up for that.
Drivetrain shunt happens when the engine speed and road speed reach a certain balance (about 30mph in 3rd on my 4.0), and the car 'kangaroos' slightly (correct me if thats the wrong way of explaining it lads). Its not a big deal, just a quirk of the car. Easiest way around it is to change down (ahhh the noise!) or go faster
