I've been struggling recently to find any decent games that I want to play, and am still on the hunt. I've played the BF1 beta but didn't bother getting the full game, enjoyed Titanfall 2 for a few hours but went off that and struggled to get into Vermintide.
The only game I've enjoyed recently was Wolfenstein The Old Blood - mindless but pretty slick still. I got most of the way through that before my save got corrupted and for the amount of story that's left it's not worth playing through again.

Can anyone recommend something vaguely similar that might grab my attention?

Have you played Doom 2016?

It is absolutely amazing, and mostly about ripping and tearing your way through endless areas of demons, building skill and muscle memory on the way. By the time i got proficient with the combat shotgun (get the grenade launcher upgrade), i could easily enter an Unreal Tournament kind of flow taking down rooms of demons.

I played Doom for about an hour and haven't gone back to it - it was just missing something.

When I read the title first thing I thought was Doom and I see I was beaten too it. Absolute carnage at times, keep an eye out for quad damage! There is an element of "problem solving" too if you want to try and collect all the bits and pieces about.

Fun game!

Have you tried Borderlands 2? You just run around shooting stuff with semi-cartoony graphics.

Thoroughly enjoyed both - fun, a bit silly, fast-paced and with a bit of polish.
I want more of the same really.

The older games (Serious Sam, UT etc) poor graphics put me off though.

The updated Shadow Warrior and SW2 might float your boat? As much a slasher as shooter, mind. Brain off, head off, brain out, arms off, legs off, gibs everywhere. No pretence at being grown up at all smile

This is a little leftfield...but I picked it up in an Xmas sale a few years back and it is a gem of a shooter if you just want some braindead fun which doesn't take itself seriously.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Not going to keep you playing for 100's of hours, but good for 10-20 or so. I just found the gameplay great fun.

You can download a demo from Steam. Then you can delete it after 10 minutes and never let it darken your PC's hard drive again laugh

I've got Call Of Juarez, it was great. Might be worth a replay now.

Will have a look at Prey.

Have you tried Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel? Its not quite up there with BL2, but has some interesting new mechanics (the grinder!!)

Have you tried Farcry 3 or 4? In both you very quickly can get to the level of rambo and just run around shooting up the landscape.

Farcry 3 has a much better story and I prefer the environment and the missions.

Farcry 4 has next gen graphics and there is more to run around blowing up and shooting.

Edit: Oh I forgot Just Cause 3, on the pc there are some performance issues but that is probably the latest brain off shooter to me, 90% of the game is just blowing stuff up and the remaining is split between travelling to the next spot (7%) and watching some form of cutscene (3%)

And for completely brain off one of the characters has autoaim as their special ability...

(apologies for the Steam link, I'm at work so can't get the YouTube link, fingers crossed it shows what I think it shows!)

They have just released a Bulletstorm remaster, but for some ridiculous reason they're charging full price for it

I have the original Bulletstorm and was going to recommend it, looked on Steam and noticed the full price remaster and then read a few reviews and didn't suggest it.
