my footwell vents (if they exist) don't put out any air.

the slider thing doesn't go all the way to the left. stops about 3/4 of an inch from the end.

any help/clues?

Buy some warm socks for the winter and some open sandals for the summer?

Sounds like you may have to take the facia off the controls to get at the back of them and see what's causing it to stick. The vents on mine arent that good anyway so probably wouldnt notice much of a difference.

Touch-wood, mine works ok, but stiff towards the left hand side but I think that's because it's the 'closed' setting.

You should notice the difference quite clearly between the two. If not then you'll have to start taking the bl--dy thing apart to get to it and fix. Who's your local specialist? Maybe able to give some advice before you get the spanners out!

'local' specialist is murray motor co 200 miles away. i'll have a wee look and see if there's anything obvious.

it'd be an improvement to get them working as when roof's off just now I find the warm air just blows straight out the roof

I could do you a swap!!! my system only warms my feet, thus demisting the car through the winter was a real hassle. How have you found Murray's so far, I am a fellow customer and also a former Tuscan owner. Hope you get a result. If you look at my earlier posting you fill find some advice about the heater system. Also if you want I have the entile S2 workshom manual as a pdf file.

Haven't used Murray's so far. don't intend to either, think I'll use Dreadnought for major stuff due to their superb work on Tuscan and use my local garage for minor stuff.

just to completely hijack this thread; does anyone know if there is a fix for the stream of air that flows into the footwell at speeds over about 40? This happens regardless of the position of the direction slider. Is this common? and if so will the "careful" application of gaffer tape solve it?

I would say that the cable from the controls to the vent is catching on something not allowing it to move properly

I had a problem last year with my vents which turned out to be a loose grub screw on the cable which controls the flap in the footwell vents.
Assume the lotus position with a torch and check that the flap moves with the slider

I read somewhere, can't remember where, about the footwell vents that cause this. I've really noticed it lately, and I'm tempted to put some clear film over the perforated bulkhead to stop the cold airflow... Someone does a commercial "cover" for them that you can buy - I guess they're supposed to look nice
