Hi everyone.

I have gone through this and all of the online fixes that I can find and mine still won't get past the start screen. I hadn't played it for about 9 months, went to play it at the weekend and I can't seem to fix it.

I also did a removal & fresh installation, after that I did the verify integrity and it was missing 2 files!

I have checked the resolution, edited the assetto_corsa file to change the threading, edited the graphics file to allow DX 10, repaired (and re-installed) the microsoft visual redist file & unchecked enable post processing effects.

I can't see anything else to try now, have I missed anything?

Thanks.

Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, if Nvidia it is a simple case of downloading the software which will do it all for you, not sure how ATI works but I imagine it is similar.

Have you changed any hardware since you last played successfully?

I have never edited the ini before, not sure it is a good idea to do so, might be worth and fresh install but using something like CCleaner (free app) to ensure all traces are removed, do a registry clean with CCleaner (ensue you save the file so if it goes wrong it can revert) and then reinstall fresh.

Sounds like it is related to the ini file edit or graphics driver to me, can you play other games?

Hi,

Yes, I should have mentioned that I'd also updated the graphics card drivers. The only thing that I've changed is the monitor and I've updated the resolution.

I did a fresh installation, and also checked that all of the old files were removed after the old version was removed. I also regularly run CCleaner and clean up my registry.

I can play other games, just not this one, it's such a frustrating game.

Cheers.

Hmm, bugger!

Ok, couple of things to try, I don't think it is the resolution, most names if it is set wrong will either give you an error or just load up in the 800x600 if there is a problem.

Do you run Nvidia or Ati Graphics card? Do you run the game through steam or through a shortcut?

If Nvidia, open up the Nvidia app, AC should be listed on your games list, it will also show you a side by side of your current graphics settings and an optimised by the app list, click optimise and try and run the game through the Nvidia app. This will also allow you to change the resolution.

If ATI then what are you doing you fool! hehe They must have a similar app that can optimise the graphics according to their info and run it through the app, might bypass a setting that is preventing it from loading.

Another thing to try, I seem to recall a tick box somewhere in steam that skips the intro when you load it up, find it and try it to the opposite of what you currently have.

You don't have any external mods installed that might be interfering on startup? If I ran an old car model, it would give me an error box which I just ok'd and it would carry on, just check you are not getting an error box on load up by alt tabbing and checking the open windows.

Struggling to think what else it could be I am afraid.

I run a pair of Nvidia cards, granted they are quite old but they did work. I always run it through Steam.

I don't actually have the Nvidia app installed, I just tried to install it and interestingly it returned a microsoft c++ error and failed. That doesn't sound good even though I'd uninstalled it and performed a fresh installation only a couple of days ago.

Did that after I got bored of the video loading every time I tried to test it laugh

Completely vanilla installation, not wanting to screw it up before it works.

Likewise, I have run out of ideas and tried everything that google threw up.

Thanks for trying though, I'll investigate the app again now and see if I can install it, the fact that it failed does point at a problem.

Microsoft Visual C++ & .Net repair needed?

Have a look through Control Panel/Programs - Uninstall a program. And look for "repair" options along the top of the columns (or if you right click each one) as you go down the list.

I checked that, there were multiple versions installed on the machine. I removed all of the versions, cleaned up the registry and restarted the machine. I then did a fresh install of Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 redistributable x64 12.0.30501 from the steam folder.

It still doesn't load. It's driving me mad.

AFAIK You need all the versions as different things use different ones.

I've got the 2005 and 2013 versions on there at the moment, it won't be hard to add the others again and at least they'll be fresh.

I've also discovered that although my rig has 2 graphics cards installed and linked, the rig only recognises 1. It's probably been like that for the last 3 years.

Silly question but do you have an Sli bridge installed?

What cards are they?

I would consider taking 1 card out and trying it on one card first, I would also do everything you can to get Nvidia app installed and consider gettting rid of all traces of Nvidia drivers on your machine and letting the app then update the graphics card.

You also need to tell the machine using the Nvidia settings to use SLi rather than single, that might be why it is only recognising 1 card.

Yes they are SLI bridged which is why I never thought anything of it, it was only when I started digging that I realised that the config only knows of 1 card. You should have the option to turn on SLI bridging in the Nvidia control panel but that option just isn't there like everything that I read online. I'm going to try pulling cards tomorrow.

The cards are GTX280's, quite old but if they were both bridged correctly they might not be that bad.
