Hi.

I have been offered a diamond engagement ring from a friend of a friend, I have been on the look out for one pretty much identical to this for a while and never considered the second hand market until I was offered this (still not 100% on it but it does seem daft me paying more than double for a ring almost identical). I have done a bit of re-search online and typically know what to look for but the valuation side of things I am clueless with however this seems a good deal? Here is a run down;

GIE cert which is a few months old - I have confirmed it against the GIE website and it all matches up
0.92 centre stone
G-H colouring
Brilliant round cut
VS1-VS2
Very good cut grade
0.10 side stones (clarity enhanced which I am not too bothered about as the main stone is OK)

Could anyone give me a ball park on what the above would be worth new or even used although for a matter of months and like new?

Thanks in advance, hopefully the above info is OK.

$4,136 if you use VS2 and the lower 'H' colour grade.

If I can find the certificate I'll put my wife's engagement ring through and see how it compares to the valuation last year.

Go to bluenile.com and change the filters to those specs and it'll give you a good idea. The only thing that would bug me about your diamond in question is "good cut?" Ideally a diamond should be "brilliant" cut as that is what makes the difference when reflecting light to make it appear sparkling.

But........how do you know the stone is the one mentioned in the certificate? I'd take it to a professional gemologist to have a look at, personally.

That did cross my mind.

The ring isnt local so I was going to suggest paying via PayPal for it then collecting that way if it comes back as a different ring I will have the cover from PayPal to fall back on to.

If it is genuinely friend of a friend, I'd get them to take it to a place of your choice for an official look before you hand over any cash - I doubt the market for second-hand engagement rings is that big so said person should be willing to do a bit of work for a serious buyer.
