Greatest mismatch between requirements and salary?

I happened across this job advert and I think it is the biggest disparity between person spec and salary I have ever seen:

To summarise its an IT Manager position at the British School in Athens. Nothing unusual about that , the unusual bit is in the requirements....

British School in Athens said:

You will have at least an MA or MSc (ideally a PhD) either in computer science combined with experience in archaeology or in a field of Hellenic Studies as covered by the School’s mission statement, or in archaeology or a field of Hellenic Studies combined with strong skills and practical experience in ICT....Ability to communicate effectively in both English and modern Greek is important

So a PhD in a pretty niche area AND bilingual for a generous salary package of.......£29k........

That reads like an advert that they have to advertise but already know who they want to written or specifically for them.

What are salaries like in Athens though?

You could be right, not sure about salaries in Athens but £29k for an IT manager of a single school in the UK is about the median. That's of course without the crazy degree requirements. I would think an MSc or PhD in Computer Science would be able to get something far better paying.

I'm sure you realise the role is in Greece but I can hire software developers with a Masters degree for approx 19-25k Euros and not too long ago took on a similar role IT Manager/Tech for circa 30k all in Athens.

Is unemployment rates a factor in this, it is known that unemployment in Greece is a massive issue the salary may seem appealing to many young Greeks!!
