Hi

I tested my AFM on my Chimaera 4.0 , when I turned the ignition on the voltage went to 0.8v and slowly fell to 0.38v is it faulty? If it is faulty is there a better one I can buy ?

Thanks All

This is what it should look like- big spike for about .5 seconds to nearly 5 volts before it settles to a standby voltage around . 4 volts - and in this case it rises to around 1.6 volts as the car is started. You have to stick to the Lucas 5AM unless you want a remap.

Thanks for that , I have booked a re-mapping with Mr Adams, hope he can stop my car shunting !!!

I have been reading the comments re shunting and have tried two Temp Sensors but sadly it didn't fix mine. Thanks anyway.

Ive spent many hours trying to eliminate the shunting with mapping. Basically you can pretty much eliminate it by making the engine run richer, typically around 13;1 AFR but because of emission controls set up the ECU just pulls it back to 14.7:1 . You can push the load points in the map to provide much more fuel just at the shunting point and effectively swamp the emission controls to the point it cant lean the mixture off any more, but it makes for nasty shifts in mixture and could potentially dump to much fuel into the catalysts, so its not ideal to say the least. Another idea would be to turn off the lambda feedback completely at say 1400 to 1700 rpm, so you can run just a bit richer in just that region, as you need the lambda feedback working at other RPM ranges to pass an MOT. By far the best option is to run the green map, and then you can do what you want, but it could destroy the catalysts and wont pass emission testing.

I had a 350 SE (3900cc) before my Chimaera and it had a Tornado Chip fitted and had been set up by Mr Adams, it would pull away from 20mph in 5th very smoothly. I know the engine is a bit different but hopefully he can make a bit better.

If it was the non catalyst set up and running green tune, that's quite easy to do. Its the emission control that causes 90% of the problem.

I've been reading with interest and keen to check my AFM is good, but struggling to get a reading with my meter - struggling to get the probe into a connection as the wire seem to be insulated all the way into the connector. Maybe I'm being the village idiot.... but guidance / pictures appreciated.
Thanks

If your probe for the meter has a sharp point (most do) then carefully push the tip through the insulation on the wire. Best to do this where it wont be seen as little holes in wiring looks a bit messy.

There's also dust / dirt cover on the plug, it's quite well camouflaged, once it's bent over it will give better access to the terminals
