We went to the pier and came back with these ugly buggers:

Got them home, chilled them, killed them and cooked them...

Then fed the kids as it was all taking so long.

And then started picking them...

Some messy, if satisfying, time later:

It was utterly delicious, but that was one of two plates! And we ate at 9, having got home before 5! Dressed crab is a bargain. hehe

What's your biggest effort:food tale?

ETA: the pasta plate is quite big. smile

Making croissants. Did it once, it's never worth all the time and work. I won't do it again while Lidl can turn them out for 30p or so.

If you've never done it, read this:

I don't like ready baked croissants - but frozen, or even better, the dough in a tube ones are lovely, freshly baked on a Sunday morning.

Seems like it was worth it, that looks lovely. Can i ask who you have cooked the pasta? After boiling have you just put it in a pan with an olive oil, garlic, chilli and white wine type emulsion? Maybe needs a bit of parsley as well

Fortunately for us foragers, most Brits don't realise what grows wild in our woods smile. I hear more Italian and Polish when out picking.

Yes. My Polish wife introduced me to the amazing things you can pick and eat in the forests around here.

You've done well to marry a 13yr old, do they have different marriage laws in Poland?

I used HFW's crab linguine recipe. Basically garlic, a touch of chilli and fresh tomatoes. It was really, really good but I think the crab population is safe as the picking process was a right faff.

I've seen people making croissants on GBBO and have written it off as far too much like hassle. Mushrooming though is the opposite of golf (ie a good walk ruined...) as long as you aren't counting on finding lunch.

I don't regard mushrooming as hard work, you just walk and pick up things from the ground...

Venison. Proper free range wild venison. Long days in a stand or up in the hills. Poor weather, no guarantee of success. Recovery of carcass hard physical work in many cases. Wait a fortnight while it hangs. Worth it all though for a rare cooked fillet with potato dauphinoise and English red cabbage.

Made burritos from scratch once, I wouldn't do it again. a few hours prep and cooking for something that while delicious, wasn't any better than the ones I can get in town.

Lasagne for me is hard work biggrin

I always regret starting it when I am half way through and the place looks like a bomb site

We're probably drifting off Billl's op, but a full English breakfast, far easier to walk to local caff & let them cook it smile
