This is a great little camera. It's not a DSLR but you can do an awful lot with it.

RX100 of some kind
It's the second coming of Christ brought to earth in digital camera form.
(failing that I am sure you used to be able to get the Canon G7x for good money and its essentially the same kind of thing as the RX100. In short, if you want better, you want a bigger sensor. From a compact the first step is of course 1 inch sensor type compacts like the aforementioned RX100, then you're into micro4/3 and APS-C mirrorless cameras, though Panasonic did make a compact with a m4/3 sensor in it)
