New Car For The Mother To Replace A CLK200
Discussion
Mother is after a new car to replace her 2004 Merc CLK200 1.8L (161hp and 177 lbft at 3000rpm). The only requirements are:
- Same size or marginally smaller than her current CLK;
- Nothing underpowered as she likes to get on with it once the lights go green
;
- Petrol as she does under 10k miles per year;
- Automatic transmission;
- Option for a towbar to be fitted (purely for the purposes of fitting a bike rack and keeping the bike away from the car, she won't be towing anything);
- Up to 3 years old (14 reg onwards) and low mileage example (under 30,000);
- Budget up to £18k (absolute maximum, a little less would be ideal).
Currently, her order of preference is a Scirocco which she absolutely loved the styling of. Followed by an A-Class, although hated the underpowered A180, so an A200 would be the only choice but petrol's seem to be scarce. Followed by either a Golf or A3.
Personally, I'm pretty surprised she's going down the hatchback route after her CLK. But this is partly due to not having a clue what else to consider within her budget. She asked me about a Giulietta, however I'm unsure as to their reliability as a daily driver? Any other suggestions of slightly large cars or even recommendations of the aforementioned choice of hatchbacks?
