Any ideas for elaborate hoaxes.

I feel a devious need to cripple somebody mentally, tomorrow. I don't know who yet, anybody from work will do.

Anyone at work got a cuddly toy on their desk? Some other personal object?

Steal it and then photograph it with a ransom note and leave it on their desk tomorrow morning.....

Great one for work is to get a screeny of somebodys desktop, then hide all their desktop icons and set the desk screenshot as their background. Make sure its somebody who is stupid with computers.

Or do what my friend did - ran into his parents bedroom yelling fire. He got the bollocking of life time.

...or be more subtle and simply swap a kew keys on their keyboard. M & N work well

(That suggestion once won me a Radio2 'round thing' - my sole claim to fame!!)

Not meaning to thread-jack but...

What was the Radio 2 Round Thing?? A key-ring or something? They seem to have stopped doing them now.

I like the screensaver idea. I'm stupid with computers too unfortunately, so how do you get a 'screeny'?

We had a similar thread a while back. Weren`t we all going to ring Currys/Dixons/Comet and other spottyoik electrical retailers asking forthe price of a DVD rewinder?

as seen here www.gizmodo.com/archives/dvd-rewinder-016644.php

Set the autocorrect in word to change commonly used words to something else. Unless you know about this feature it will take ages to figure out what's going on, as proved by doing this to a few of my housemate's computers last year.

Did that to a twit trainee at work, except stuck the screen dump back in upside down. When he came back from lunch and called us over saying "what do I do, it's all upside down?" I said "that happens now and then, no problem" and picked his monitor up and turned it upside down. He tried to work like that, failed of course, then called IT support and tried to explain the problem...

There are the usual ones which do the rounds, the first of which I must admit I got caught out by several years ago.

There was a not on my desk in the morning which read:

"Customer returned your call last night. Please call him back.
Mr C. Lyon, 01244 XXXXXX"

Phoned up. Voice at the other end said:
"Hello, Chester Zoo....?"
Me: "Can I speak to Mr C Lyon..... Oh . forget it"

Also works with Mr G Raffe.

The other one is best if you work in a large office with lots of identical telephones.

Move two phones next to each other, and then swap the receivers over. When someone sits at the desk, ring one of the phones.

They pick it up, it stops ringing. But they can't hear anything. Confuses them for a while.....

No - I turned the monitor upside down for him to "help" him! Listening to him trying to explain to the gimboid at IT services that his monitor was upside down to get the display the right way up was nearly too much for me....

Of course there is the old trick of cramming a raw potato into your mark's exhaust pipe - assuming a good exhaust system the car will wind over but not crank, after say 10 seconds of cranking the spud will be expelled with a loud pop.

You would want to use a little discretion on who you pull this on and where - the spud can be expelled with some force so don't do this on a car that his DTC type upturned exhaust tips..
