Hi all, a brief introduction, my name is Ian, and I have been gazing fondly at these forums for some time, and today feel I should share my car history and latest (albeit cheap and boy racery), purchase.

My car history goes as follows, with anything with a (W) after it belonging to my partner then wife (we have been together since we both learnt to drive), try not to doze off, the year is the car year not the purchase year, I passed my test in 2001 :

1989 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit (1st car, bought off my Mum in instalments)

1987 Austin Metro (W) - she wrote it off, shame.....

1996 Ford Escort 1.6 LX (bought off my Grandparents)

1993 Nissan Micra 1.3SR (W)

1997 Rover MGF 1.8 non vvc (two HGF's due to a dodgy garage being involved with the first one, and despite the hairdresser comments at 21 I loved that car)

2003 Nissan Mirca 1.0E (W) (owned from new, woefully slow but new and reliable)

2003 Peugeot 206 GTi

2005 Honda Civic 1.8EX (traded both of the last two for this, brand new one of the first locally of the spaceship shape, drew a lot of attention when new, but was always back at the dealers, ran it jointly)

2008 Suzuki SX4 1.6 GLX (W) (owned from new, traded the above in for it and kept some cash back, which I used to buy.....)

2001 BMW 330d E46 saloon (loved this, and left a few roundabouts sideways, didn't keep it long)

2008 Vauxhall Astra Twintop 1.9cdti Design (why!?, a diesel convertible!?, always felt sad at traffic lights driving a topless tractor)

2010 NIssan Juke 1.6 Acenta (W) (Again, one of the first in the region, but a great car, only sold to have another child and needed more boot space, owned from new)

2010 Mazda 6 2.2d Sport (one of my favorite cars, massive standard spec, only traded it in because for some reason I yearned for another diesel convertible, I have made some very bizarre and awful car decisions, owned from new)

2008 Volvo C70 D5 SE Auto (Good solid car, nice for wafting about, and had it mapped, looked good and didn't sound as bad as the twintop, but still felt like I was telling people I drove a lady part)

2010 Renault Megane Grand Scenic 2.0 dci Dynamique (W) (Replaced the Juke)

2012 Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer 1.9cdti Sri (brand new)

1989 Nissan Figaro (bought for the wife as a 30th Birthday present, she had always wanted one, it was sold on last year, after 3 years of ownership)

2013 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer 1.9cdti Sri (W)

2015 Vauxhall Astra GTC VXR (wanted a hot hatch, had a relationship with our local Vauxhall dealership, ok car, relatively quick, but front tyres always struggled)

2013 Citroen DS3 1.6THP Sport Plus Convertible (W),(This was a replacement for the Figaro, something fun for the wife when not in the Zafira, I quite like the little thing)

So, after running the four cars above together for a little while, (the Figaro and DS3 crossed over a bit) I decided that the VXR wasn't getting the use it should be to justify it's cost, and having only done 6,000 miles in 18 months, at 20mpg, cried for a bit over the depreciation I had funded, and sold it back to the dealership for near the o/s finance.

Fast forward 6 months and i'm missing having a car I call my own, yeah the DS3 can be chucked around and has decent enough performance, but still. So, I start looking around, a friend had had a Clio 172 Cup years ago, I drove it back then and loved it, simple, chuckable, and put a smile on my face. I figured now the kids are older and don't need buggies etc, the Zafira can be replaced for something big, fast and German soon, so what to plug the gap while I wait. I dont want to spend a load, and possibly make use of my local track at some point. My inner teenager needed to be let out once in a while too.

Then this turns up in my local ads, a Renaultsport Clio 182 (Full Fat version), an inch of receipts and a very fastidious previous owner, very very tidy for its 88k, Ktech exhaust (not too boomy), some Eibach springs and i'm told, the 98 RON map which given it's 1k rpm idle seems to ring true. A couple of small things require attention but few 13 year old cars wouldn't in some form.

So there we go, feel free to tell me what a muppet i have been with some of my choices along the way, and as I mentioned, some bizarre moves from one thing to another!
