My Tamora Speed 6 engine has just received it’s 3 year 18,000 mile service and I was horrified to hear I have a problem with a single valve. For some reason the valve has either ‘stretched’ or its seating has been effected which has caused the adjustment to be at its minimum.

The valves have now been adjusted at each of it’s 3 services when the schedule states this should only be done every 12,000 miles.

The major grumble is the fact the car has to go back to the factory, have the engine removed, take the cylinder head off and assess the damage. Anything up to a £3,000 bill I hear! Great when the engine only received a 2 year warranty.

Has anybody heard of a similar fault?

Some of the very early speed six engines, way before the chocolate finger follow problems did have a valve stretch problem. However I understood this was very rapidly rectified in 2000. I'm therefore surprised you've had any problem. The redesign curred the issue.

I think I'm correct in saying that some later cars have experienced the same problem as well.

I'm sure some of the S6 owners it has affected will be along shortly.....

Hmmm, I think you need to do a search on Sped 6 reliability issues. I think you'll find more than enough to both comfort you (you're not alone) and horrify you (you're not alone).

£3k is about right for a rebuild, but I would have a quiet word with the factory first.

unforunately its much more common than this.when i had my aug 02 tusc serviced at tvr power in november, the mechanic told me that they still get valve stretch even on the new cars and its very common, mine had 9 valves shimmed, most of which were shimmed down on the exhaust side due to valve stretch.hard to understand why they havent sorted it.
