997 3.8 RS - overhyped ?

It's been a few years since I drove the generation 2 997 GT3RS but on the occasions that I did, I always felt it was a bit 'neither fish nor foul' and would rather go back to a 996 RS or forward to a 991 GT3 (or RS). For me both cars either side are more accomplished in terms of what they set out to be. In point of fact, I always found the generation 1 997 GT3 preferable as well and the cynic in me says that the 3.8 RS simply tries to be too many things to too many people. That said, the press always raved about this car as did many enthusiasts. So who is right ?

Drove a somewhat prepped 6RS on track and loved it. Waiting for the right car to come up as blue ones are fastest.

I would never sell my 7.2 RS though as it delivers its thrills on any road - and my wife finds it more comfortable than my daily 7.2 GT3
