GT4 increased downforce settings

I was reading in the user manual of my GT4 about adjusting the wing and removing the small spoilers in front of the wheel arches for increasing downforce. It comes with a warning that it's only for track use and shouldn't be used on the road - can anyone think why this would be? I can only think decreased fuel economy or top speed? Maybe they don't want to encourage people driving on the road at speeds where downforce becomes a factor? Anyway, just interested!
