Has anyone tried running the 18" tuscan fronts with out fitting the steering rack 'restrictors'?

I fitted them with the new wheels as TVR told me to because the rim would rub on the suspension.

I'm fitting some Nitrons right now & I can easily check the clearance of the wheel on full lock through the full range of movment - It dosn't come any where near any of the suspension components.

Any one know if it will rub if I take the extra rack stop out before I do?

Not long changed to 18" spiders myself...was too impatient to wait for the spacers and fitted the wheels on a saturday morning...reversed the car out of the driveway saturday lunchtime....inside rubbed like hell on wishbones...pulled back into driveway...car sat on driveway till the spacers arrived 3 days later....!
Keep them in is what i say...made no noticeable difference to turning circle anyway!

Thanks for the reply, but I'm a little confused now.

I got bored so ripped off one of the restrictors & there is still 20mm min clearance through out the movement range at the front of the upper wishbone - is that where yours rubbed?

Anyway it seems like it will be ok with out them, I'll try the other side now. May be the restrictors that were on it already were enough in the first place. (there is just the one big one there now).

The turning circle was god awful with them in, to get out of the underground car park at work I had to do a five point turn to get round bend to the exit. It did it with only one stop with out the restrictors.

Hmm, I just double checked. I took the restrictor off the O/S & there is more clearance on that side with out the restrictor than there is on the N/S with the restrictor, some how that doesn’t surprise me with TVR!

satman – did yours only rub on the N/S?

I have not got round to fitting my spacers yet , when the car was up in the air no clearance problems but once down a you try to reverse they rub badly , must get round to putting them on as I over compensate when parking and it takes several attempts .

Hope this helps

Didnt give it a chance to!!...rubbed on the O/S cos that was the way the wheels were pointing as I reversed out of the drive, before very carefully pulling back in again!

Thanks for the reply, but as I said I have the shocks / springs out at the mo, so I can move the wheels all the way up till the tyre hits the top of the arch & the clearance (with the front of the upper wishbone) remains much the same as the wheel moves up. Where does yours rub? I wouldn't have thought the wheel can move around too much under load, the bushes look pretty solid to me

Well I took them both out in the end & back on the road there is no rubbing at all, just the 'good' old turning lock back.
Very strange.... but I'm

I have a car where one wheel rubs and the other doesn't. I got some spacers but not bothered to use them. I tend to only need that lock in tight spaces and therefore rim moving at four miles a fourtnight when it touches.

Anyone using the full lock at speed needs to reassess their driving style

However the rim touching any part of the frame is an MOT failure. So you have to talk nicely to your MOT guy.
