Hi all,

Finally bought myself an E60 M5 from BMW. Car is fully loaded and only 36000 miles, I got a very good deal and wow these things are worth the hype.

Only thing that I am not 100% content with is the volume of the exhaust and I know this has been done to death but what can I do regarding a muffler delete for example? I am not too familiar with the weld points on the car but from what I've read the whole exhaust is pretty much a bolt on from the headers so how would one go about simply removing the boxes without voiding warranty?

Plan is whenever I need to go in for a service etc I was going to simply have the rear section welded back on...some say it can be done others say it can't. I'm so confused.

Thank you in advance to any help that comes my way.

Cheers.

I had H&S back boxes fitted to my E61 M5 - the existing silencers were removed by cutting the pipework roughly inline with the rear axle and an overlap clamp was used to fit the new boxes. I had no issues at warranty time - the dealer even commented on how nice it sounded.

A complete rear silencer delete will be LOUD.

lol sounds good biggrin

I'll bear that in mind, I want loud but not stupid loud so thanks for that.

Did you tell your dealer about your mod? I've heard this before where person X has a dealer who's cool with something minor like an exhaust mod but person Y saying their dealer wouldn't recommend it and even told them it would void their warranty.

Thing is I haven't actually seen anyone (on these cars at least) saying a simple rear section modification has actually led to a warranty to become void.

Thanks for your advice mate smile
