Disco 2 chassis protection options
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Long time lurker, just joined the forums and after some opinions.
A long story short:
I have a D2, '91 vintage, that I aquired from my father. He had it waxoyled when bought it. It's now peeling off in 'sheets' as it were.
It needs help, before it dissolves into its elemental components...
Does anybody have any suggestions of who or what are my best options to prolong it's life?
Thanks,
Andy

I'm not an expert but I understand https://www.dinitroldirect.com/ is an excellent product. It needs applying properly though so if you haven't got the facilities/inclination then you could pay someone else to do it.
There is a diy guide on the website under the rustproofing kits section to give you an idea of what's involved.

1991 would be a Disco 1, not a 2. Or did you mean 2001?
Either way, this all depends on what you are saying is actually wrong. Do you have any pictures? Also what country are you in?
If the chassis is sound, then just a rub down with a wire brush and reapplication of something like WaxOyl will likely do the job. If it needs painting or other work, then it's a different question and a different answer.
Hi All,
Oops, that was a good start to my PH experience...
I have a 1999 D2. (Dunno how I managed to type '91...
Anyway, back to the subject at hand:
300bhp/ton:
I wouldn't say things are 'wrong' - yet.
I know D2 chassis have issues with corrosion around the fuel tank area - I've treated that area with rust converter and waxoyl. My question(s) are more related to the rest of it.
I was underneath the other day and noticed that the middle / front end was getting really scabby, with the Waxoyl peeling off.
Looking at it, I'm not sure a DIY solution would be effective in the longer term - Lots of nooks & crannys that would be almost impossible to get at with a wire brush / other methods I have at my disposal.
The chassis (box sections) seem to be fairly sound at the moment (no apparent internal protection). Outriggers seem OK.
So, I've been looking at commercial options.
Before 'n After have been around for years in the LR world. Does anybody have any experience / opinions on them?
Any other suggestions for companies that offer similar / better corrosion protection systems?
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ultraweasel.

BuzzWeld seems to be the new kid on the block, and has a big new following.
Look them up on web, FB or I believe on LR forums too.
Also a lot of people saying its just corroless paint from arc rite in fancy packaging and a helluva mark up. There is a video from arc rite on youtube that addresses the question without going into detail. Look them up on web, FB or I believe on LR forums too.
I'm on the fence with my opinion. Who knows? It does look like good stuff but then so is corroless supplied by arc rite.
Fwiw I used dinitrol on my box section internals, arc rite primer and glass impregnated topcoat on the frame external and body schutz and waxoil everywhere else.
