KNX Wiring

Has anyone got any experience of installing lighting control (using Control4) in a home that has been pre wired with KNX wire daisy chained to all lighting points?

No experience which will help you but if that setup arrived on my desk I'd be trying to design in a "proper" lighting system, Lutron or probably Crestron.

I'm not a fan of knx, especially in resi.

Lutron would be first choice. Need to utilise the cables already in the walls though and not something I have dealt with before so just wondered if anyone else had.

Any other lighting system I can utilise and use that cable and then integrate with the C4 would be a bonus.

So they just have KNX to the keypad points? You could use Crestron wireless keypads with low voltage power supplied through the KNX bus and then either traditional or wireless dimmers - depending on how the lighting channels themselves are wired.

Why do you not want to use the KNX if that's what has been wired? It's 90% of what we fit these days after years of doing Lutron/Crestron/Control4, and there are Control4 drivers to bring the lighting into the Control4 app if that's what you are looking to do.

Get someon to come and do a full survey, Control4 panaziled wiring system when it first launched was said to be fine wired using just CAT5 so the KNX wiring might be up to the job.

All systems we now install are using Belden but I do a have a couple of take over jobs running on some less than idea cable.

Assume you have a Control4 dealer on board - talk to them.

Clipsal C Bus wires in the same way as KNX.

Integrates with most control systems too.

I'm not an expert but I came close to commissioning an HDL system in my house and I'm pretty sure it runs on a KNX bus. Might be worth a look.
