Best cam for a 500?

Corin, I've just had an MC2 fitted 770 miles ago.....once you hit 3k, def more power, but also more lumpyness lower down the rev range. I have been told that a visit to MA and his magic chip will cure this and more. I'm still running it in, so can't give any info on higher up the rev range.

I second the MC2, had a long chat with RAY at V8, and his advice was "if it going on a track regularly then the 404H and the 404 with solid lifters will see a benifit", "if fast road only then the MC2 is more than up to the job"...
at the mo my 500 is fitted wiht MC2 cam + stage 3 heads.. (and does not get tracked) pulls hard all the way to the red line. all it needs now is to breath a little better.....

The 404H should have Hydraulic lifter (that's what the H stands for) i think the other is just a 404 (not sure if it has a letter identifying it as Solid lifters)..
Nacnuds 450SEAC has solid lifters on a 404, and compared to the MC2 it sounds a bit like a bag of nails, very tappy.. also the wilder the cam get the more lumpy the low rev end can get, the MC2 seems to loose out a tad at the top end to the 404 and 404H but is a little more refined low down, hence the "is it going on a track and going to be using lots of revs most of the time, or is it driving on the road most of the time"..

youll get along fine with a h404 on a road car its beautifull.i dont track my car at all but still chose the h404 as the best fast road choice.very easy to drive in any conditions imho and i havent even had a re-map.if i was going to track,and it would have to be a lot,then i might have chosen the p404 with solid lifters.but theres very little extra to be gained with it,and then of course you have the extra maintainance of tappet adjustment/checking at each service.
