Cheap, fun, good to learn spannering on
Discussion
All,
I'm looking for something relatively cheap - £1500 - that would be fun and good to hone my newly found enjoyment for working on my own cars.
Currently have a Lexus is250 and a Lexus RX. Great cars and I've been doing a bit of work on them.
I think I need to add something 90's to the fleet and want to work on it and potentially modify.
Have been thinking about mr2 or an s13 200sx.
Any ideas?

I have a Mk3 MR2, and it's fairly straightforward. The advantage of an older Jap car is that the electronics rarely fail, so there's less expensive and difficult to use equipment to buy to keep it running. The quality of the engineering on a Mk3 is also pretty good. Stripping the suspension on mine last weekend resulted in exactly no sheared bolts.
However, there is an argument that says it's more prone to bodywork rust.
French stuff prior to Cab bus is also fairly maintainable to, though you won't hear that said very often.
You'll get an MR2 for £1500 and there's lot's of help on the net,and parts seem to be fairly available.
Good luck with whatever you buy
