Did it sell for 27 or was that what they were asking before it sold.
If I bought a car at a dealers I would try and do a deal. If I was successful only the dealer and I would know what we agreed on.

Agree with what you say
But that dealer wouldn't go much lower than say 25 which is still a high figure for a 400, which proves there are always people willing out there,to go over and above, when they see a car they fall in love with
It has had a full refurb by the description. Still seems a lot!
4 yrs ago, there were 2 Chimaeras for sale at (Strettons I think?) that had never been on the road.
One was grey and one was blue. I remember them being 13 reg and had to have a high level brake light added at the base of the rear screen for the current requirements. They sold for less than that!
Edit: It was Strattons - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=12...

"Assuming they are as good as they claim, they are worth £16k max." Hindsight......

Prices may have gone up a bit but the general and current going rate for a Chim in good order is still way too cheap when you actually add up each element to get you to a full rebuild. Agree that somewhere north of 20k and on a scale thereafter depending on the level of refurb is a reasonable price.
It does seem that some still expect an awful lot of Chim for around the 12k mark.

You could say that about almost any car though.
Honda S2000, Boxster S etc and their ilk, similar cars to a Chimaera 4.0 although a bit slower would all cost a lot of money to build from parts. Indeed a new engine for a Boxster S would cost more than the whole car is worth. But good ones can now be had for £6k ish.
There's over 3000 Chimaera on the road too so not rare. Granted they are going up in value, 5 yrs ago you could buy one in reasonable order for £5k. Double that now. Or not quite:

I believe he let it go for that price.

Yup fair point I guess. But I'm looking at the build quality of a Chim not being that of a Porsche or Honda or pretty much all major car manufacturers, so there's arguably lots more to repair with a Tvr to get it in good order. A fair few of those Chim numbers are not in great shape and the ones that are have either been wrapped up or had lots spent on them, which is why I think the effort and expense taken to Sort each element seems particularly disproportionate...but yes you will not see the return on your investment.
You're right, there are other options around but if your not set on a Tvr then its difficult to make financial sense in buying one I would think. I just feel a Tvr offers something very different from anything else and they feel very special and unique on the road which should only add to value, as can the interest and heightened profile generated with the new launch

Bought mine at the end of 2013, but 12 months earlier, if I'd had a crystal ball...

Pretty much this I guess.Personally once the new one is out things will be on the up more than ever, especially the sorted ones
With a niche car like a TVR, serious buyers with money waiting are thin on the ground.
When I spoke to my seller, he said I was the only person who actually turned up to look at the car. He had lots of no-shows and lots of calls offering half the asking price but no serious buyers.
In the end he dropped the asking price by 3k to get a sale.
