New S5 - Loss of Google Maps when abroad
Discussion
My new S5 has given me the option of using Google Maps on the MMI as well as being able to send destinations to the car using Google Maps when in the UK.
Now I've travelled to France the Google Maps option does not work and I cannot retreive any of the destinations I have sent the car. When I try the MMI churns and eventually says it can't reach the MyAudi server - see photo.
Yet clearly the car is in communication with Audi as all the location info / lock, unlock on my MMI Connect App still works.
Can anyone explain this? Audi have so far been unable to.

So I understand correctly; the system was working in the UK, you travelled to France, then returned to the UK and it's stopped working?
Not a problem I've come across (although it sounds like you may have played with the system more than me anyway) - have you tried an MMI reset?
If you're still in France and it isn't working (stupid question warning) is data roaming turned on?

Still in France and still without all the Connect functions.
Don't know how to turn data roaming on/off on Connect to be honest, or even whether it can be. Supposedly its a roaming SIM. The Connect icon, similar to the one that relates to a connected Smartphone, has disappeared, so that theory could be right you'd think. Trouble is when I noticed this 2 weeks ago and contacted Driverline they were able to tell me that Connect had been operating during the journey I'd just made here in France. They could not tell me why the functionality had been lost though.

Back in the UK contacted Driverline and "Relationship Manager", Pointed out Page 76 of the brochure stating European roaming included. Nothing better to suggest other than 'Take car to dealer', where of course the problem won't be seen.
Anyway after 3 weeks in the UK and everything working as it should I returned to France at the weekend and, Lo and Behold, SIM card logo is visible and Google Maps is working.
With change to Eu roaming coming this month I wonder if Audi has altered the SIM remotely.

I don't know - but if you have data off abroad - surely that would affect google maps as it won't be able to download the new maps?
Obviously as you say with the new data roaming rules, you can now use your data abroad for free (yay no more my kids racked up £30,000 bill abroad playing candy crush and facebooking in the daily mail)! Life's so unfair, damn you (insert network provider).

O/T but don't you just love all the marketing from the phone companies making out this is some kind of freebie that they're giving you for being such nice customers, rather than a legal obligation being 'forced' on them, which they fought tooth and nail??!Being cynical, I wonder how quickly after brexit they'll revert to charging for roaming.....

Seemingly in the small print of the new regulations the free data roaming is for reasonable use so they can still charge if you exceed what they deem reasonable usage.Being cynical, I wonder how quickly after brexit they'll revert to charging for roaming.....
Anyway the new arrangements come in on 15th June so that's not the reason my car's SIM now roams. Can only think that Audi Germany has read this post, realised the omission and changed the settings...........

I'll be testing the theory on our summer holiday - got a 5GB data limit and except to you is while we're away lolAt least your car is now working as expected - reminds me of when I bought a tomtom with live traffic back in 2009 for a euro road trip. The roaming element took about 12 months before it even started being rolled out! Had to buy an RDS mount for the poxy thing to get traffic info....
